ABOUT US

WHAT IS A MOMMYMATE?

My name is Julie Grabscheid and I am the founder of MommyMates. I live with my husband and 2 daughters in Mountain View, California. With a background in communications and psychology, I understand how important intrinsic rewards are to one's sense of well being. These personal acts of kindness not only motivate, but can make you feel great.  When I became a parent, I wanted to raise my daughters with the understanding of their connection to others, and their impact to the things around them. As many parents can attest, having children was one of my biggest inspirations to be my best self. MommyMates came into being when my oldest daughter, who was 4 at the time, started asking to do neighborhood garbage pick-ups. We coined the term, "MommyMates," because we were being kind to our mother earth, and because I had my "mate" right along beside me, motivating and inspiring me, and I was role modeling and

teaching her. As time went on, and as we continued to participate in different projects and charitable activities, both big and small, we would call ourselves "MommyMates". It was amazing to see how children can be a motivator for adults. But most importantly, it was incredible to witness the positive impact this framework had on our daughters and on our family. At the same time, I was functioning as a local leader in our area's cultural exchange community, and was able to share this idea globally. I spread the MommyMates philosophy through these young adults and families, by reminding them that everyone is unique and has their own gifts to share, and that we are always role models for the children around us.  So when you support the the planet and people on it, with something as small as a sharing a smile, or as big as big as facilitating a fundraising event, you are being a MommyMate!

BRANCHING OUT - THE MOMMYMATES MISSION

I will be a mindful, active participant in the well being of our planet and the people on it.  I will be inclusive and seek to find similarity in others, while respecting perceived differences. I will remember that the greatest gifts in life are often free, or a result of the sum of small contributions. It is human nature to want to be valued and to contribute.  No matter my age, I am learning that I can make a difference and that my inherent purpose is to connect... to be a MommyMate!
